Clinical Ladder

This program is aimed at providing the nursing staff and potential recruits with a mechanism for professional advancement in the clinical setting. This program applies to RN’s in the Acute Care Departments, Surgical Services, Obstetrics Department, Emergency Department, Cardiac Cath Lab, Diagnostic Imaging, Cardiac Rehab, and Wound Care Center.

Specialty Nurse Grant

This project was funded by a grant awarded under the President’s High Growth Job Training Initiative, as implemented by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration. HCA (Hospital Corporation of American) has been awarded a $4 million Specialty Nurse Training Grant. The award is divided between the Texas and Florida divisions of HCA. The HCA Affiliated East Florida Hospitals and Broward Community College are working in partnership to enroll a minimum of 80 registered nurses into the specialty nurse training program over the two year grant period. The program includes basic arrhythmia, critical care and emergency nursing courses consisting of elearning theory and hospital clinical experiences.

Emerging Nurse Leadership Program

The goals of the Emerging Leadership Program are geared towards the following building blocks:

  • To develop new leadership talent
  • To support newly placed leadership talent
  • To increase the effectiveness of current leadership talent
  • To attract and retain key talent
  • To increase employee satisfaction

It is a year-long training program combining one week a month of classroom instruction followed by three weeks of skill implementation..

Specialty-specific National Certification

St. Lucie Medical Center supports the professional advancement of its nursing staff. To uphold this belief and reward professional nurses who continue to strive for continued nursing knowledge, SLMC provides compensation for nationally certified professional nurses.

Preceptor Training

The preceptor training program is developed for direct care providers that work with graduate nurses, students and new nursing orientees. The program is geared towards improving the skills of existing staff in teaching, coaching, mentoring, communication and staff evaluation. Having the above mentioned skills, the trained preceptor will be able to assist trainees in their career transition.

Charge Nurse Training

The Charge Nurse Training Program is intended to assist the professional nursing staff in the following aspects of leadership:

  • Directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating
  • Problem solving
  • Effective communication techniques
  • Chain of Command

Other topics are also discussed based on current trends and needs assessment survey completed by the nursing staff.

Tuition Reimbursement

This program is aimed at providing tuition reimbursement to current staff for educational opportunities in clinical/technical professions in which recruitment shortages or a hospital need has been identified. The program also includes a single formal course, degree programs, special short certification programs, and programmed instructional courses.
