Lung cancer

Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers, and is highly treatable. It can be treated through surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy. This cancer is strongly linked to a history of smoking, so you should seek lung cancer screening to determine your risk of developing this disease.

Lung cancer doctors in Port St. Lucie, Florida

If you have been diagnosed with lung cancer, it's important to have access to experienced oncologists and state-of-the-art technology to deliver the care you need.

At HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital, our lung cancer team is committed to providing you with high quality cancer detection and treatment services. Using advanced technology, our goal is to diagnose lung cancer as soon as possible. Then, we will work with you to create a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs.

Our lung cancer screening and treatment services

As part of our pulmonary care services, we use innovative technology to detect and treat lung cancer as soon as possible.

Robotic bronchoscopy

Robotic bronchoscopy allows your doctor to detect lung cancer sooner and more accurately than they could with a traditional bronchoscopy. It uses robotic tools, software and an endoscope (a long, thin tube with a camera attached) to view hard-to-reach nodules in the lungs and obtain tissue samples for biopsy. We are proud to be one of the first hospitals in the U.S. to provide this innovative technology for diagnosing lung cancer.

Low-dose computerized tomography CT lung screening

Another way we show our commitment to detecting lung cancer sooner is through our low-dose CT lung screening program. The goal of this program is to provide you with evidence-based cancer screening and case management tailored to your needs. Our team of lung nodule coordinators will be there every step of the way to make sure you are receiving compassionate care and long-term support.

Qualifying for a lung screening

To qualify for a lung cancer screening in our program, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be 55 to 80 years old
  • Be a current smoker with at least a 30 pack-year history (a pack-year is calculated as the number of packs of cigarettes smoked per day multiplied by the number of years you have smoked) or be a former smoker who has quit within the past 15 years but has a 30 pack-year history
  • Have no current signs or symptoms of lung cancer
  • Have had a shared decision-making meeting with your primary care physician

To learn more about your cancer screening options, please call our lung cancer navigator at (772) 468-1217.

Incidental lung nodule detection

When you come to our hospital for treatment, even if it's not related to lung cancer, and receive a CT scan of your chest, we will analyze the exam for any suspicious lung nodules. We provide this service for patients who come to our emergency room (ER), as well for those who are receiving care on an inpatient or outpatient basis.

Lung cancer treatment

If lung cancer is detected, we will work with you to provide a personalized treatment plan. Our multidisciplinary treatment team includes radiologists and pulmonologists. We also provide follow-up care to make sure you are supported in your cancer recovery and beyond.
